The Dance Complex Series Events

In response to the needs expressed by community members during the pandemic, The Dance Complex created opportunities for movers and makers of all kinds in the 2021-2022 season. As the 2024-2025 season approaches, we will continue to offer our DIY Performance, Learning to Walk the Talk, and Reflection, Healing, and Movement series. New for the 2024-2025 season, Friday Night Lights joins our DC Event Series.

Like previous years, we’re offering the opportunity for you, our community, to help us by…

Suggesting types of sessions and teachers/facilitators for our wellness series “Reflection, Healing & Movement”

Applying for dates on the calendar for your work to be performed at The DC in our “DIY Performance Series”

APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2024-2025 SEASON ARE NOW OPEN.

DIY PERFORMANCE SERIES

Opportunity for Performance Makers

The DC will collaborate with artists to bring their work to our spaces. We will provide the artist with space and a box office split of  80/20 per cent in favor of the artist. There are 20+ weekends available in one of our two performance spaces – Julie Ince Thompson Theatre (Studio 1) and Studio 7.  It is recommended that the artist have self produced previously and have other funding in place to cover artistic expenses. We encourage a wide spectrum of genres and cultural origins within under-represented communities.

LEARNING TO WALK THE TALK SERIES

Opportunity for Facilitators & Panelists

The DC offers space a conversation-based series where experience meets world events. Artists will be engaged by The DC to suggest a session topic, host a session or become a panelist,  with our community as the audience in mind. The DC will work with artists to curate the topic and personnel involved,  and to set dates for these sessions. We encourage topics and intersections that work towards IDEAAL – identity, diversity, equity, agency, access, leadership.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS

Opportunity for Communities & Movement Leaders

The DC engages an artist to host a Friday evening dance lesson followed by an open dance party. Artists may host a dance lesson(s) in the style of their choosing.

REFLECTION, HEALING & MOVEMENT

Opportunity for Educators & Practitioners

The DC engages an artist to hold a session with a focus on reflection, mindfulness, and healing. Sessions will intersect movement with mindful practices to promote mental and/or physical healing. Artists will host their session from a series of pre-set dates.
