Radical Love: A Collective Movement

Radical Love: A Collective Movement

2023-24 DIY Performance Series

About Radical Love: A Collective Movement:

Dance heals. Grieving together heals. Moving from isolation to community heals. In the time of the pandemic to war upon war, how do we expand, question, and express who we are as individuals and as a people? How do we affirm joy and resilience in times that feel impossible to survive?

NATyA Dance presents a suite of new pieces to address these questions through dance, poetry and music. We affirm our hybrid communities, connect with the elements, grieve our losses and express joy through Bharatanatyam, folk dance, contemporary storytelling, a Sikh shabad, and the live music of acclaimed singer/songwriter Anju.

This performance is made possible by funding from Natick Cultural Council and Ashland Cultural Council.

About NATyA Dance Collective:

We are an ensemble of dancers focused on bringing meaningful and invigorating performances to our many communities. Our primary dance form in Bharatanatyam, which Collective members have studied for a minimum of two decades. Our extensive repertoire of contemporary and traditional dances often feature English narrative, poetry, contemporary music, and contemporary themes, challenging the boundaries between traditional and contemporary expressions of Indian classical dance. The members of our collective also bring experiences in Indian contemporary and folk dance forms, theater, other classical forms such as Mohini Attam and Kuchipudi, yoga, martial arts, and dance therapy. Led by artistic director Dr. Smitha Radhakrishnan, we have been performing for communities all over the Boston area since 2017.
