Cultivating Collaboration with Peter DiMuro

What can students expect from this workshop?

The Click welcomes Peter DiMuro, Executive Artistic Director of The Dance Complex and Artistic Director of Peter DiMuro/Public Displays of Motion, for two special workshops suitable for a variety of performers at all career stages.

Throughout this week of exploration, Peter will share his tips and tricks of the trade, discussing the power of collaboration as he has experienced it in his work and others’, and – with participants – calling on and cultivating skills of performing authentically both as an individual and within an ensemble.

Students can sign up for either or both workshops as their schedule and interest allows.

Tuesday March 5: Cultivating Collaboration

Through movement exercises and the on spot analyzing of them, this workshop asks participants to consider methods of cultivating collaboration in both class and rehearsal settings. We will consider: how to create a sense of safe community while also driving physical dynamics; how to devise verbal prompts; how to access, layer and cull the creative output of the participants and more.

Thursday March 7: Performance Power

Who is the “who” we bring to the platforms on which we perform? How do we challenge ourselves to create new and fresh ways to approach performance? Peter and participants will explore various answers to these fundamental questions in this workshop, during which we will discuss and play with focus, persona, embodiment, and energy as a means to expand our choices when inhabiting any place.

About The Click:

Developed in 2021, The Click is a collaborative dance company and creative collective in Greater Boston. Its members are dancers whose primary medium of physical expression is through contemporary dance forms, but who experiment in many modes and genres of creativity. As a collective, The Click’s members are each deeply invested in answering the universally complex question: who am I and what am I doing here?

The Click contributes to the consistent presence of creativity in Boston and beyond in several ways: by educating pre-professional youth dancers, professional adult dancers and the dance-curious of any age; performing original creations several times a year at traditional and non-traditional venues across Massachusetts, New England and beyond; and by investing in the curiosity of those new to dance in Boston or new to dance in general by maintaining an open, inclusive and accessible community.
