The Day The Doors Were Locked
On March 24th, 1993 the doors of 536 Massachusetts Ave are padlocked shut without warning to Joy of Movement (JOM) members, teachers, or dancers. The courts freeze JOM owner Kenneth Estridge’s assets and he later files for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. This leaves up to 11,000 members of the fitness chain without reimbursement. Memberships were being sold up until the previous day.
Dancers manage to unlock and get into the building the doors to continue dancing.
