Omayra Amaya is a celebrated modern flamenco dancer and choreographer whose work blends deep Gypsy tradition with contemporary expression. The daughter of flamenco artists Olga and Curro Amaya and grandniece of the legendary Carmen Amaya, she began performing as a child, choreographed her first role at 12, and was touring internationally by 15.

OMAYRA AMAYA FLAMENCO DANCE COMPANY:

A Boston Conservatory graduate, Omayra founded the Omayra Amaya Flamenco Dance Company in 1994 and launched a critically acclaimed nine-month residency at Boston Park Plaza that inspired a PBS documentary and the award-winning film Gypsy Heart. She has since performed worldwide—from Lincoln Center and flamenco festivals in Spain to sold-out tours across China—and appeared in The Pink Panther II alongside Steve Martin. Her choreographic work has been featured in interdisciplinary projects, major collaborations, and civic recognitions, including a Miami proclamation of “Omayra Amaya Day.” Recent productions such as INTIMO, Ritmo del Tiempo, and Antes Del Fin continue her mission to evolve the art form while honoring her rich legacy.
