This theater dance class is heavily influenced by the Fosse style, enriched with elements of modern, contemporary, jazz, hip-hop, Bollywood, and Latin dances. We’ll begin with a choreographed warm-up designed to prepare your body and support the choreography we’ll explore at the end of class. I hope to share insights from my 40 years of professional experience, drawing on the wide range of dance styles I’ve studied and the renowned director/choreographers I’ve had the privilege to learn from—shaped by my work in concert dance, commercial dance, and theater. So bring your energy, curiosity, and a hat… and, if you have one, a bowler hat!

What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?
In this Saturday’s theater dance class, students will experience my work, deeply influenced by the distinctive Fosse style—one of the most iconic forces in jazz dance history. I bring the essence of the style—not Fosse’s original choreography—to inspire and challenge dancers. Together, we’ll explore precision, nuance, and theatricality, while discovering how to use movement to tell a story.
What background, training, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?
I was a featured dancer in the National Tour of Fosse and I have over 40 years of training in the Fosse style and repertoire. I have worked and continue to learn from iconic Fosse masters such as Ann Reinking, Gary Flannery, Gene Foote, and Chet Walker, to name a few. My work embodies the nuance, precision, and theatrical flair of this groundbreaking style in every piece of choreography I create within the theatre jazz genre.
Finish this statement: I am passionate about teaching this style because…
…I’m passionate about the Bob Fosse style for its daring blend of sexuality, humor, and darkness. His choreography celebrates the beauty of the female form, at times challenges gender lines, and balances subtle, detailed precision with bold, iconic movement. This unique artistry continues to inspire choreographers worldwide—and fuels every step I teach.
