This beginner level dance class draws from a variety of modern/contemporary dance techniques, somatic practices, and anatomical fundamentals to find connectivity within the body. Each class focuses on one movement principle, which is explored through improvisation, warm-up, center combinations, and across the floor phrase work. Participants will learn tools to expand their range of movement while dancing in a fun and supportive atmosphere.

Meghan (Salem State University) and Kristen (Colleges of the Fenway) are both faculty and directors of college dance programs. Their artistic partnership began in 2008, stemming from a shared interest in somatic-based dance practices, pedagogy, and collaborative art making. Kristen is a Certified Movement Analyst and RYT-200 Yoga Instructor, and Meghan is a Certified Evans Method Teacher. Their classes are an eclectic blend of contemporary dance practices rooted in the somatic practices of Laban Movement Analysis, Bartenieff Fundamentals, the Evans Modern Dance Technique and more. At the heart of each class they foster community building while celebrating each individual’s uniqueness.
