Hi! I’m Marina, and I run Dance Around Boston. I’m offering low-cost dance classes to help expand access to dance training for adults on the weekend.

Looking to learn, or work on, your leaps and turns? Want to get stronger and try out new drills and exercises? Have you always loved jazz and lyrical technique? Join me in my all-levels class happening this summer at the Dance Complex!

Rough class breakdown:
90-minute class:
25 minute: cardio warm-up + strengthening including use of provided bands and yoga blocks
40 minutes: turns & leaps & jumps drills/across-the-floor plus some time to try on your own
20 minutes: short combo tying skills together
5 minutes: cool-down/deep stretch

Cost:$10 single class (90 minutes)

What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?

We will focus on active stretching, strengthening exercises and across-the-floor drills and combos to safely execute turns, leaps and jumps common in jazz/lyrical studio choreography. Think: skills and tricks you may see on So You Think You Can Dance or in a Broadway musical.. but broken down and accessible for all levels. Get ready for the dance floor, auditions or a grocery store aisle near you.

What background, training, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?

I have trained in jazz, ballet and lyrical classes for 30 years in Massachusetts, New York City, Maine and New Jersey. Growing up, I dance competitively at a dance studio in greater Boston. Currently, I am a member of local dance companies including Mosaic Dance Inc. and Alive Dance Collective. I began teaching an all-levels, affordably-priced leaps and turn class this year — I am continuing to work on my teaching practice and love incorporating feedback into my class structure.
