This contemporary-based movement class will begin with a playful guided improv during which movers can tune in to their body’s needs and creative whimsy. Next, we will explore momentum, release, and expansive limb use through both standing and floor technique exercises. Class will culminate with a joyful dance phrase, during which participants can take creative license and put their own spin on the material. Beginner-friendly options and accommodations will be available for most of the material explored. Come ready to sweat and smile!

What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?

While each of the Click teachers lead a different class, at our core we are deeply rooted in post-modern/contemporary dance. Some of our instructors specialize in floorwork, some in release-based techniques, and others in improvisation and contact improv. Individual class descriptions can be found for each of our teaching artists on our website: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/classes-with-the-click-tickets-980389951737?aff=oddtdtcreator

What background, training, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?

The Click is a collaborative group of professional dance artists living, making, teaching, and studying in the Greater Boston area. We are a group of professional contemporary dancers creating and presenting meaningful and accessible arts experiences. The Click offers Contemporary advanced/professional level contemporary classes as well as community-based classes taught by our founding members who have studied and taught contemporary dance and movement across the country and internationally. Our mission is to contribute to the consistent creation, performance, and growth of contemporary dance in both professional and educational spaces across Massachusetts.

Finish this statement: I am passionate about teaching this style because…

…Community Contemporary is rooted in The Click’s mission to redefine rigor. Yes: dance can be highly technical and physically demanding. And yes: art can be very intellectual and nuanced. But most importantly: contemporary forms can be all of this, and more… and we can have FUN while we explore all of it. That is the type of rigor we are looking for. Angie loves getting to teach this class because it embraces autonomy and connection through movement.
