What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?

Classical ballet is a dynamic, precise, elegant, and evolving art form. Although ballet’s early roots trace back to the royal courts and (later) theaters in Europe, the discipline has reached millions of dancers and patrons around the world. Ballet is a language, a practice, a performance, and a way of understanding and expressing the human experience.

What background, training, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?

Lexy fell in love with classical ballet at the Academy of Ballet Arts 24 years ago. Trained by Judith Koeckhoven, who studied at the School of American Ballet, Lexy went on to perform with contemporary ballet companies and modern dance choreographers around the world. She is grateful for all she learned while dancing with the Ohio Contemporary Ballet Company in Cleveland, the Cleveland-Havana Ballet in Cuba, DSundance X in Boston, and the incredible works she’s performed by Pam Tanowitz, Dianne McIntyre, Martha Graham, Laura Alonso, Reggie Wilson, Tommie Waheed-Evans, Antonio Brown, Heinz Poll, Andrea Woods-Valdes, and many more.

Finish this statement: I am passionate about teaching this style because…

there are few black women on the planet who are given the privilege of loving and being loved by ballet. I have that privilege and it is my honor to share my love for ballet with others.
