Glimmer invites you to move with present moment awareness, connect to your internal experience of what you sense and feel, and bring it your own self expression to the collective experience of moving in community. Every Glimmer gathering weaves somatic improvisation and guided choreography from a wide range of classic, contemporary and conscious dance/movement modalities.

Your Glimmer guides (Julianne + Audrey) provide a theme that informs both the somatic improvisation (the research) and the choreography (the collective container). You can count on irresistible playlists from a mix of music genres designed to engage the senses, emotions and imagination, while sensory-based prompts invite us to tune into our bodies to access the creative intelligence that flows within. Simple, guided choreography serves as a container for integrating your movement impulses, your a-ha moments, your “glimmers!”

What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?

Glimmer is Nia-inspired but delivered differently. Whereas a Nia class draws from a variety of structured dance/movement modalities including jazz, modern and Duncan dance, martial arts and yoga — Glimmer also draws from modalities of the expanding field of conscious and somatic dance and task-based movement, such as Gaga, Authentic Movement, and 5 Rhythms.

What background, training, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?

Joy Collective Cambridge offerings are facilitated by Julianne Corey and Audrey Albert King, both licensed mental health counselors in private practice. Audrey is a board-certified dance/movement therapist, licensed mental health counselor and certified movement analyst. Julianne is an Expressive arts therapist and holds the MFA in Writing. Both bring a lifetime of training and teaching in a variety of dance styles and somatic movement, and have in common extensive training and teaching of the Nia Technique. Both have served as adjunct faculty at Lesley University in the field of Expressive Art Therapies.
