This class aims to apply the Flamenco techniques and movements that students learn from the technique class into choreography. The participating students will have an opportunity to perform the choreography in the Yuling Spanish Dance annual show.

What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?

Flamenco is a form of music and dance that commonly associates with Andalusian region of Spain. Though Flamenco was developed in Spain, it also receives other cultural influence from places like Africa and South America. These influences enrich the complexity and the beauty of Flamenco.

What background, training, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?

Yu-Ling Hu was a former dancer of Ensemble Español Spanish Dance Theater (EESDT). She received all four styles of Spanish dance training: Classical Spanish Dance, Flamenco, Escuela Bolera and folkloric dance while in EESDT. Yu-Ling has studied from several masters such as Carmela Greco, Omayra Amaya, Paloma Gomez and Concha Jareño to name the few. Yu-Ling toured with EESDT nationally and internationally since 2007 and she performed in many cities and festivals, including Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, Chicago Dance Festival, Dance for Life and etc. Yu-Ling also received her Master degree in Dance/Movement Therapy & Counseling from Columbia College Chicago and she is a board certified Dance/Movement Therapist. Yu-Ling facilitates Authentic Moment groups in Arlington area. The practice of Authentic Movement has served as a support for Yu-Ling’s creating process. Yu-Ling moved to Massachusetts and founded Heart.Dance.Space (HDS) in 2017. HDS has provided Classical Spanish Dance classes, Flamenco classes and Authentic Movement groups in Greater Boston area.
