I will share a dance composition on Ganesha and also provide the music for the same. I don’t expect the dancers to completely memorize it by the end of the workshop but to enjoy the process of learning it and to imbibe new techniques and nuances and implement them into their practice.

What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?
My style is from a village known as Pandanallur in the Kumbakonam region, later it was fashioned to be known as the Kalakshetra style with changes made by Rukmini Devi Arundale. I learn from her disciple Leela Samson who has made her own embellishments to the style.
What background, training, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?
Bhavajan Kumar is a sensitive Bharatanatyam dancer. Born in Canada his passion for dance took him to India to pursue dance further. Blessed with a captivating stage presence, precision in movement and a deep devotion to the art form, he is a natural artiste with an innate understanding of the art he practices. Bhavajan Kumar has worked and learnt with celebrated Bharatanatyam exponents like Padmasri Leela Samson & Jyotsna Narayanan under whom he has matured. Bhavajan not only absorbs and imbibes the subtle nuances of his gurus’ distinctive styles, but is also keen on presenting the art with sincerity, keeping intact its spiritual essence.
