Students will learn Tangos de la Repompa for the beginner level choreography classes. The intermediate/advanced students will learn a Guajiras with an abanico (fan). The technique classes are open to all levels.

What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?

Flamenco is an art form based on the various folkloric music traditions of southern Spain, developed within the gitano (gypsy) subculture of the region of Andalusia, and also having historical presence in Extremadura and Murcia.

What background, training, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?

Sabrina Avilés began studying flamenco in her mother’s native Dominican Republic and furthered her training in Spain at the renowned Amor de Dios studios in Madrid and with others in Seville. She was a member of the Spanish Dance Theatre in Boston and Omayra Amaya’s Flamenco Sin Limites.
In 2009, Sabrina founded Flamenco Dance Project, a performance troupe dedicated to promoting and teaching flamenco through concerts and workshops. The troupe performed at the Jacob’s Pillow Inside/Out Series in 2011, where they attracted one of the largest audiences in the series’ history.
Concha Jareño is a Spanish flamenco dancer and choreographer who has performed around the world. She is known for her innovative style that combines traditional technique with contemporary movement. Concha has participated in many important festivals and venues, both in Spain and abroad. She is often a guest artist in famous tablaos around Spain. She is an internationally acclaimed teacher.

…after years of performing and immersing myself in the rich history and intricacies of flamenco and its profound connection to the cante (singing), I feel compelled to share that depth of understanding with my students. Many teachers may not have the same level of experience or knowledge, and I want to offer my students a more comprehensive and authentic perspective on flamenco.
