What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?

Casino is a popular social partner dance style originating from Cuba, characterized by its circular movements, and intricate footwork and body isolations. Casino originated in Havana, Cuba, in the 1950s, emerging from traditional Cuban dances like Son and Cha-Cha-Cha. It was influenced by other Cuban dance forms like Mambo, Rumba, and even North American Jive. The name “Casino” comes from the Spanish term for dance halls, “Casinos Deportivos,” where the dance was first popularized. After the Cuban Revolution in 1959, Casino spread globally, becoming a popular dance style in various countries and cultures. Casino is also known as Cuban Salsa. It’s often danced to Timba, a Cuban genre of music influenced by salsa, Son, and Afro-Cuban rhythms.
