Modifications for center combinations are offered to accommodate a mix of levels. Moving from careful, slow exercises at the barre to unique, choreographed combinations in the center and rigorous, traveling phrases from the corner – this class gives the opportunity to work on the technique and fundamentals of ballet while providing a safe and welcoming space to experience artistic expression and physical fitness through dance!

What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?

This class follows the long tradition of ballet with a 21st century approach. It boils ballet down to its most basic ingredients and explains it in a logical way using the French terminology and the legacies of Vaganova and Balanchine, while integrating modern concepts of anatomy and kinesiology.

What background, training, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?

After dancing professionally for 15 years with Jose Mateo Ballet Theatre here in Boston/Cambridge, I discovered that my real calling was teaching!  I started training in ballet at the age of 8 and dancing professionally at 18 and have now been teaching for over 25 years.  In 2011 I founded Ballet with Molly and began choreographing and performing with a multi-generational group of dancers in self-produced workshop performances.

Finish this statement: I am passionate about teaching this style because…

…it wasn’t easy for my body to dance ballet – I had to train hard and study and stretch and struggle – all of which has made me a better teacher, and when I taught my first class in December of 1999 it was like I had found my true calling: to share my love of ballet with others!
