The class is organized with a traditional structure, beginning with barre exercises and progressing to center work. It is designed for dancers at the intermediate to advanced level. My goal is for you to experience the joy of dancing, so that even after the very first combination, you feel engaged in movement and artistry, not just focused on technical exercises.

What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?
Ballet has a rich and extensive history, with roots that trace back hundreds, and some claim even thousands, of years. Its earliest forms are believed by some to have originated in ancient Rome, where dancers used pantomime to tell stories, accompanied by orchestral music. This early approach to dance laid the groundwork for the expressive and narrative qualities that would later define the art form. The ballet as we recognize it today began to take shape in sixteenth-century Italy. The very word “ballet” once referred to actions such as springing, jumping, and moving the body rhythmically—essentially, to dance. Over time, ballet developed into a sophisticated and highly technical genre that continues to influence dance worldwide.
What background, training, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?
With nearly forty years in professional dance, I have performed with Ballet British Columbia, Eliot Feld Ballets/NY, and noted local companies including Marcus Schulkind Dance Company, earning multiple awards, grants, and fellowships—including those from New England Foundation for the Arts, Massachusetts Cultural Council, Summer Stages Dance, and The Boston Foundation. My choreography has received recognition from Dance Magazine and regional initiatives. I am also an experienced educator, teaching at institutions such as Boston Conservatory at Berklee, Emerson College, Concord Academy, Ballet Arts Centre of Winchester, and currently instructing at Andover School of Ballet, Acton School of Ballet, and City Ballet of Boston.
