Queer people have long used song and dance to find the joy and resilience needed to navigate oppressive forces that refuse to accept us. The queer dance party is an extension of that lineage. Together, we let the entrancing sounds of pop, house, and disco turn our bodies into instruments of joy, love, and ferocity.
We begin with a warm-up that loosens the body and summons a fabulous, cunty, ferocious version of yourself. Next, we learn movement drawn from queer dance forms such as vogue, waacking, club dance, house, and martial arts. We close with an extended free dance to express ourselves, build community, and cultivate the mental and emotional fortitude to stay dynamic and fierce in everyday life, no matter what comes.
