Join this dance workshop that will be part Afrofusion modern dance choreography and part group improvisation. Melissa Alexis invites you to explore topics of healing and evolution that will inform her newest work, The Promised Land. All interested in participating are welcome: teens (with guardian if a minor) and adults, no dance background necessary.

What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?

Melissa’s movement research and choreography is rooted in exploring the intersection between West African, Eastern, and Western perspectives, including psychology, social justice, sustainability, and mindfulness.

What background, training, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?

Melissa earned her Master of Fine Arts in dance at Sarah Lawrence College. She is a former company member of Jean Appolon Expressions and choreographic credits include the play black odyssey boston by Marcus Gardley and the film The Slave Narratives of Willie Mae by Ifé Franklin.
