ALEGRIA ANCESTRAL: Isaura’s Brasilian Dance Workshop Series
In this series of six unique sessions, attendees will be introduced to Contemporary Bahia Street Dance Movements along with fire hits of “spicy lyrics and instrumental of “Swingão Baiano, Pagode da Bahia and a flash of Blocos Afros da Bahia rhythms.
Participants will encounter my youthful energy from the warm up towards how Brasilian Dance and Music achieve Joy as Resistance in the streets of Brasil.
This series will be a progressive physical energetic dance movement. It will also serve as therapeutic fun practice resulting in opening your energy channels – the chakras, and support you to transform sensation of tiredness, anger, insecurity into being grounded, positive, determined, joyful, a brisk to vibrance.
You will dance, sing, clap and be transport to the streets of Brasil.

Adults: Sliding Scale $126 – $180 full series | $25 Drop In
Students with school ID & Elders 65+: $80 full series | $15 per session

What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?
My legacy is the ancestral culture of Afro-Brasilian and Brasilian Amerindian trhough the languages of dance, pop music, storytelling, theater, chants. My teachings bring my interpretation and creativity of the traditional and contemporary forms. For this series I am inspired by the Brasilian momentum of Art Activism in the streets defending our democracy.
What background, training, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?
I have been practicing and performing many of sacred and secular movements of dances from my Indigenous African Brasilian Cultures for over 45 years. I have performed on stage theater and street interventions. I am a dancer, actress and Acapella singer. On the past 25 years several those traditional movements have been incorporated into my classes and choreographic projects, now more than ever I give my dance classes the approach as Healing Arts, Art as Activism and Experimental Performing Arts. I bring storytelling to support the deep level of practice, feeling, the understanding of their meanings throughout dance studio format.
