This class is for strengthening your core and limbs together. We will work muscles to assist in balance, move through sequential spine and limb movements. Work our cores and limb strengtheners and work the upper body to assist in posture. We will repeat movements week to week to make them familiar and easily followable. What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?
I studied Luigi jazz, Horton and Hu[hrey in college. After college I began to learn Simonson Technique and danced with a company, Prometheus Dance, based in Limon. I started to work with elders in 1986 after working with Liz Lerman at Jacob’s Pillow. Dancing with Joan Green and Back Pocket Dancers of which, I am now the artistic director. Lynn Simonsons Better Brain & Balance cirtifications informed me about teaching elders but they teach me every day about themselves.
What background, training, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?
Andy Taylor got her BFA in Dance from UMass Amherst. She has taught modern, jazz, and international folk dance for over 5 decades. She has certifications in Scottish Country dance, Better Brain and Balance, and Autism Dance Therapy, and she has taught locally and nationally. Her training in modern dance includes Horton, Limon, Simonson Technique, and Luigi Jazz.
Finish this statement: I am passionate about teaching this style because…
Because i see resilience in motion. People who want to keep moving and find the strength to do so every day beyond soreness and working to recover from either injury or immobility and lethargy. Youth shows up and is not turned away but finds a place to improve, recover and breathe with the rest of us.
