Students can expect a welcoming, all-levels class that begins with a warm-up, followed by step-by-step choreography, time to dance the full routine, and a cooldown. Each class is designed so beginners can focus on the core movement while more experienced dancers can add styling, texture, and performance. Chris’s teaching philosophy centers on clarity, encouragement, and creating a supportive space where every dancer can build confidence and enjoy expressing themselves.

What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?

Dance Sassy is an open-style choreography class inspired by the energy of pop music videos, K-pop performances, and styles such as hip hop, jazz-funk, and fem-style dance. More than learning steps, the class is about moving for joy, expressing your personality, and building confidence in a supportive community. It gives dancers space to let go of everyday stress, embrace their own style, and feel powerful through movement.

What background, training, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?

Chris began dancing in 2007, finding joy, confidence, and self-expression through pop and K-pop choreography. He began teaching cardio dance at fitness centers in Indonesia in 2011 and has continued developing his practice through years of teaching, performing, and creating accessible choreography, including as a Dance Complex teaching artist since 2014. Dance Sassy is his own open-style approach, drawing inspiration from pop performance, jazz-funk, hip hop, and K-pop while prioritizing clear, step-by-step instruction. His relationship to the form is rooted in community and in creating a space where dancers of different backgrounds and experience levels can feel welcomed, expressive, and confident.

Finish this statement: I am passionate about teaching this style because…

I am passionate about teaching this style because I have experienced how dance can relieve stress, build confidence, and help people reconnect with joy. I want every student, regardless of experience, to feel welcomed, supported, and free to express their personality through movement.
