The classes focus deeply on Flamenco and Castanets technique, specifically breaking down traditional forms like Fandangos de Huelva and Sevillanas. My philosophy for this course is to provide a structured yet passionate environment where dancers can elevate their artistry, refine their rhythmic precision, and truly master the expressive power of classical Spanish dance.

What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?

Flamenco and Spanish Classical dance carry a profound legacy rooted in Andalusía in southern Spain. This art form serves as a powerful medium of cultural storytelling, using intricate footwork, expressive hand movements, and rhythmic castanets to convey deep emotional narratives of struggle, celebration, and resilience. Over centuries, styles like the festive Sevillanas and the rhythmic, expressive Fandangos de Huelva have transformed from local folklore into a universally celebrated heritage, recognized globally for their raw emotional intensity and technical brilliance.

What background, training, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?

My deep relationship with Flamenco spans a lifetime of artistry, beginning with professional ballet training at the Boston Conservatory of Music and Dance at Berklee and flourishing as the principal dancer and choreographer for the Ramón de Los Reyes Spanish Dance Theatre. I later established myself in the absolute Mecca of flamenco—Madrid, Spain—where I founded the Ballet Español de Clara Ramona and spent over 15 years staging internationally acclaimed productions alongside legendary artists like La Tati, Tomás de Madrid, and my own highly accomplished sons, Isaac and Nino de Los Reyes. As a performer, practitioner, and choreographer, my work has always breathed life into pure flamenco by bridging a profound respect for tradition with modernism. Today, my ultimate mission and passion lie in nurturing future world-class talent; after a faculty career at institutions like Harvard University and the Boston Conservatory, and spending the last 15 years pioneering the growth of flamenco across Asia, I am dedicated to helping a new generation of global students rise to the heights of international recognition.

Finish this statement: I am passionate about teaching this style because…

it is an art form that demands both absolute technical precision and complete emotional vulnerability. Watching students master the complex coordination of the castanets while discovering the profound, fierce strength within themselves is incredibly rewarding. I am dedicated to passing down this rich, cross-cultural heritage to keep its vibrant history alive and to help a new generation of dancers find their own unique, powerful voice.
