Applications for our 2023-24 DC Event Series seaso Applications for our 2023-24 DC Event Series season are OPEN! Each of our three series is uniquely designed to focus on performance, movement, and dialogue-based programming. Learn more about our Reflection, Healing, and Movement Series, designed for educators and arts practitioners whose work intersects movement and with mindful practice below: The DC engages an artist to offer a session with a focus on mindfulness, and healing. Sessions will intersect movement with mindful practices to promote mental and/or physical healing. Artists will host their session from a series of pre-set dates. ECO : ANIMAL : KIN is an interdisciplinary modern dance theater project that explores realities, histories, and questions related to our relationships as human animals to other creatures, social mores, time, space, and more. Belonging and Othering, a new work by beheard.worl Belonging and Othering, a new work by beheard.world, will be on stage at The DC on June 10 and 11, the fourth presentation this season as part of the BLOOM Residency and Platform Raising Program! beheard.world is a racially diverse collective of Boston performing artists, filmmakers, and educators committed to utilizing the arts to make a positive change. Belonging and Othering features a collaboration of nine dancers/choreographers, three poets, and two filmmakers who have created a piece where “belonging” and “othering” intersect, opening a window into underlying parts of tribalism and bias that keep us divided. We’re bringing back our three uniquely designed series with focuses on performance, movement, and dialogue. Learn more about our DIY Performance Series, perfect for individuals and companies looking for a performance experience below: The DC will collaborate with artists to bring their work to our spaces! We will provide the artist with space and a box office split of 80/20 percent in favor of the artist. There are 20+ weekends available in one of our two performance spaces. They’re back at The DC! Join Meghan McLyman and They’re back at The DC! Join Meghan McLyman and Kristen Duffy Young for Moving to Connect on Tuesdays from 6/13 through 6/27. This workshop series will utilize Laban Movement Analysis/Bartenieff Fundamentals to find connectivity, fluidity, and ease in the body. Students will leave feeling present and invigorated! Registration for this series is completed through The Dance Complex’s Mindbody system. To register for any class in this series, you will need to create an account. Kathak: North Indian Classical Dance with Anjali N Kathak: North Indian Classical Dance with Anjali Nath comes to The DC on 5/23 through 8/15! Whether you have no dance experience or are a professional Kathak dancer, Anjali welcomes you to a fulfilling, energizing, and grounding workshop experience. Participants will be introduced to fundamental rhythms and footwork as well as Kathak's history, stories, and philosophies. Kathak is one of eight classical dances from the Northern region of India. It originated as a storytelling art form and has evolved through its rich history to include rhythmic footwork, swift and various pirouettes (chakkars), dynamic movements, and more.
