Sean Bjerke
He/Him/His
About:
Sean was introduced to house dance by Boston native, Ricardo Foster Jr in 2007. He explored the dance’s vocabulary first under Jardy Santiago, and later from NYC’s Dance Fusion. In 2013, Sean began to visit local clubs to experience the true essence of house music culture within Boston’s house music community. In 2017, Sean met current mentor, Edson Gonzaga (BRA) who helped Sean develop a closer relationship to house music and unlock his own personal movement style. Sean has since worked as a teacher, adjunct dance professor, company director, event organizer and judge to introduce newer generations of dancers and lend his knowledge & experiences to Boston’s house music community.
I am passionate about teaching this style because…House helps me find my best self.

What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching? House music is a genre of electronic dance music popularized in the Chicago/Detroit region of the USA in the late 70s/early 80s. The term “house” was derived from the Warehouse, a Chicago club where the music was often played. As house music spread, and dancers of different ethnic and technical backgrounds gathered in clubs to dance to this music, specific movements were eventually adopted as house dance “foundation.” A group of NYC dancers known as “Dance Fusion” became representatives of this codified version of house, and were the first to begin teaching it in studios around the world. |
What can students expect from this class? The All Levels House class expands on foundations learned in the Intro class. Dance experience is a plus, but is not required. Students will dive deeper into developing their basic vocabulary, musical understanding and will learn how to connect concepts through choreography AND improvisation. Class is physical but fun! Come to class with an open mind and a comfortable pair of shoes. |
