About:
My background in Capoeira comes from a familial generation, starting with my father. I have over 50 years of uninterrupted practice in Capoeira and over 40 years of ministering the art. I am the sole founder of Associação de Capoeira Mandingueiros dos Palmares – also known as Capoeira MdP. It was founded in 6/7/1977 in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. My time in the US has been dedicated to teaching Capoeira in Massachusetts and other states. The style of Capoeira we practice is more commonly known as Capoeira Contemporânea, following Capoeira Regional that was created by Manoel dos Reis Machado (Mestre Bimba). His student, Reimundo Cesar Alves de Almeida (Mestre Itapuã), is my Mestre.
I am passionate about teaching this style because…It is my life, the air I breathe. My sons follow the same path, valuing this legacy. We are a Capoeira family, working in spreading and growing Capoeira as a whole.

What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching? We teach a form that is often referred to as Capoeira Contemporânea (Contemporary Capoeira). It’s an amalgamation of the several forms of Capoeira taught throughout Brazil. Although there are distinct forms, Capoeira Regional and Capoeira Angola, each region in Brazil has had its unique style within these forms throughout the years. |

What can students expect from this class? Students can expect a little of everything in our Capoeira class. It’s an art with a variety of avenues and benefits such as self-expression, music, rhythm, fight, self-defense, history, balance, and respect. |
