About:

Marta Moussa has over 35 years of world dance experience as a performer, teacher and choreographer. Marta studied hula with the late Kumu Rose Kapulani Joshua and Kumu Keith Awai, both of Honolulu.

I am passionate about teaching this style because…I want to open peoples’ s eyes to the beauty of Hawaiian Hula . I want to increase peoples’ understanding of this little known (in New England) dance form & develop their appreciation for this dance form.

What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?

Hula, long a vital aspect of Hawaiian culture, is a beautiful and exacting dance form. Like many ancient dances, the hula can be traced through Hawaiian legend. This class will take students thru the basic hula steps & terminology culminating in learning a Kahiko (old style hula ) & ‘auana hula (modern style).

 

 

 

What can students expect from this class?

Hula class consists of learning basic hula steps & movements along with the hula terminology. Utilizing this knowledge to learn both Kahiko (old style) hula & “auana-modern style hula. Cultural & background information is given to increase students understanding of the Hawaiian hula.
