About:
Laura Sánchez is an independent flamenco dancer, choreographer and educator originally from Cádiz, Spain. She began her flamenco education as a child and received professional training from the Dance Conservatory of Madrid. Laura also holds a Professional Certificate in Expressive Arts Therapies from Lesley University where she developed an emerging therapeutic dance practice, Expressive Flamenco©. Laura actively performs in flamenco venues in the Eastern U.S., and placed 3rd at the 2016 Flamenco Certamen USA, an international competition that takes place in NYC. She has been a teaching artist at The Dance Complex since 2014 and has collaborated with several organizations in Massachusetts.
I am passionate about teaching this style because…Flamenco is an authentic form of self expression and I am passionate about teaching this art form to embrace my students to fully express themselves.

What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching? Flamenco dance is a traditional cultural dance from Andalusia, Spain. It is known for its emotional intensity, proud carriage, expressive use of the arms and rhythmic stamping of the feet. Dancing Flamenco is great to socialize and improve creativity by continually challenging the brain through learning about new cultures, new dances, and new songs. |

What can students expect from this class? This class is focused on learning the basics of flamenco dance in a supportive and friendly environment. The pace of this class is slow so the students can deeply understand the basic technique. This class is perfect for students with no previews experience and also for those beginner students looking to go back to the basics. The students will learn a piece of Tangos. |
