Julianne Corey

She/Her/Hers

About:

My background includes ballet, yoga, somatic movement and mindfulness training. I hold the MFA in Creative Writing, Nia Black Belt, a variety of yoga certifications and I am a former member of the International Nia Training faculty, as well as Senior Lecturer at Lesley University. I taught Nia for over 20 years. I am an Expressive Arts Therapist, both working in a clinical practice and teaching in the field.

I am passionate about teaching this style because…having a physical practice that brings me back to my senses, fuels my curiosity and makes room for everything I feel – however I show up – is life affirming… and I love sharing that with others!

What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?

The Playground is Nia-inspired but delivered a bit differently. In this class, we work a bit more collectively as a community of teachers and students, who all have something to share.

What can students expect from this class?

Nia-inspired but delivered differently, the Playground draws from many movement modalities from dance, martial arts, yoga and somatics. As a holistic practice, it integrates and stimulates the body, the mind, the emotions and the spirit. Explore movement that honors all of you, in all of your juicy aliveness. This practice blends simple choreography patterns with expressive, freeform movement and invites you to listen to your body, to attune to sensation, and to make choices that support you, moment-to-moment. The Playground can be as vigorous or gentle as you desire on any given day and can even be practiced from seated. Expect to arrive, kick off your shoes, drop into the music and embrace presence and playfulness in commUnity.
