Andy Taylor

She/Her/Hers

About:

I started to work specifically Horton & Humphry Modern in College at UMass/Amherst. My Jazz teacher taught Luigi Jazz. I danced with Prometheus Dance for 20 years and we were a Limone company. I danced with Danny Sloane who used Dunham styles and Paradigm who danced Luigi Jazz mixed with Humphrey and Horton.

I am passionate about teaching this style because…You dance for your enjoyment, health and mental wellbeing. Mind and body mixed with spirit is what keeps us whole.

We all age and we all need to listen to our bodies as they age. Movement is necessary for our mental health. We need to keep working on our balance, challenging our nerve pathways to continue to maintain our connections with music, space awareness and enjoyment of movement. I love helping people feel their bodies open, get stronger and bring a smile to their day, a bright beginning to their week!

What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?

My class takes forms and exercises from Humphrey, Horton, Limone Modern and Jazz technique and style from Luigi Jazz.

What can students expect from this class?

All dancers need a good warm-up which is geared to stretch while strengthening. Technique is the springboard dance is based on and knowing your instrument is your advantage. Keeping the fun in the dance/music relationship and keeping you dancing long in life is my goal.

What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?

This class is based in basic modern techniques with exercises geared to maintain strength as we get older. Music brings us together in our movement. Sequential actions which inform our movement pathways.

What can students expect from this class?

We will do strengthening exercises that wake up our muscles needed for balance, better breathing, core strength and mobility. We will work arm pathways, move from the floor to standing and then work to keep our joints supple and strong. Our dance will work our brain and body connections.
