SUMMARY:Flamenco Technique/Choreography Class with Sabrina Avilés
DESCRIPTION:Classes will begin with a focus on technique\, followed by choreography incorporating the mantón de Manila. This class is best suited for students with prior experience working with a mantón and will culminate in a performance in the spring. \nCost: $35 Single Class | $224 Entire Series (7 classes) \nREGISTER HERE\n\nWhat is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?\nFlamenco is a form of song\, dance\, and instrumental (mostly guitar) music commonly associated with the Andalusian Roma (Gypsies) of southern Spain. (There\, the Roma people are called Gitanos.) The roots of flamenco\, though somewhat mysterious\, seem to lie in the Roma migration from Rajasthan (in northwest India) to Spain between the 9th and 14th centuries. These migrants brought with them musical instruments\, such as tambourines\, bells\, and wooden castanets\, and an extensive repertoire of songs and dances. In Spain they encountered the rich cultures of the Sephardic Jews and the Moors. Their centuries-long cultural intermingling produced the unique art form known as flamenco. (https://www.britannica.com/art/flamenco) \nWhat background\, training\, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nI have been dancing and performing flamenco professionally for over 30 years. Throughout my career\, I was also a member of three local flamenco companies: Ramon de los Reyes Spanish Dance Theatre\, Omayra Amaya Flamenco Sin Limites and my own company\, Flamenco Dance Project. I have studied both here and in Spain\, and continue my studies (to keep current with the dance) at various workshops both here and abroad.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFinish this statement: I am passionate about teaching this style because…\n\n\n\nit fills my soul\, and I want to impart that to my students. I make it a point of really studying the different elements of the dance\, especially el cante (singing) to teach my students the importance of the relationship between the dance and the singing.\n\n\n\n\n\nHow can students learn more about this offering?\nWebsite: https://www.sabrinaaviles.com/flamenco\nInstagram: @flamencodanceproject\nFacebook: Flamenco Dance Project \nContact Information\nContact Sabrina Avilés:\nsabrina@flamencodanceproject.com
