SUMMARY:Glimmer ~ Somatic Improvisation + Emergent Choreography
DESCRIPTION:This dance/movement practice blends somatic exploration with guided and collective choreography\, drawn from a wide range of classic\, contemporary and contemplative modalities. \nGlimmer gatherings invite us to explore possibilities and potential of living in our bodies\, guided by curiosity\, awareness and personal expression. Movement inquiry offers both freedom and container. An eclectic mix of music genres engage the senses\, emotions and imagination. Sensory-based prompts invite us to tune into our bodies to access the creative intelligence that flows within us; collective choreography emerges from impulse and improvisation. \nWe build each dance in a creative process together\, by listening to the music\, listening to our bodies\, moving in community and following the glimmers! \nCost: $20 Single Class Drop-In | $130 for all 7 spring sessions\, March – May (valid through 5/30/26) \nREGISTER HERE\nAccepted Payments: Venmo @Julianne-Corey\, Credit Card through online pre-registration only\, bring cash to class (exact change please). \n\nWhat is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?\nGlimmer is Nia-inspired but delivered differently. Whereas a Nia class draws from a variety of structured dance/movement modalities including jazz\, modern and Duncan dance\, martial arts and yoga — Glimmer also draws from modalities of the expanding field of conscious and somatic dance/movement\, such as Gaga\, Authentic Movement\, and 5 Rhythms. \nWhat background\, training\, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?\nJulianne Corey\, LMHC is an Expressive Arts Therapist in private practice. Her movement background includes ballet\, yoga\, somatic movement and mindfulness training. She holds the MFA in Creative Writing\, the Nia Black Belt\, and has trained in multiple styles of yoga. Julianne taught Nia for over 20 years and is a former member of the International Nia Training faculty\, and former Senior Lecturer at Lesley University. She leads workshops and international retreats that integrate travel\, art-making and mindful movement. \nFinish this statement: I am passionate about teaching this style because…\nHaving a physical practice that brings me back to my senses\, fuels my curiosity and makes room for everything I feel\, while engaging with community connects me to self and community\, and feels life affirming! \n\nHow can students learn more about this offering?\nInstagram: @joycollective_cambridge\nFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/niajoycollective \nContact Information\nContact:\nniajoycollective@gmail.com
