SUMMARY:Moving to Connect: Intermediate Contemporary Modern Technique
DESCRIPTION:This class draws from a variety of modern/contemporary dance techniques\, somatic practices\, and anatomical fundamentals to find connectivity within the body. Each class focuses on one movement principle\, which is explored through improvisation\, warm-up\, center combinations\, and across the floor phrase work. Participants will learn tools to expand their range of movement while dancing in a fun and supportive atmosphere. \nCost:$22 single class\, $60 – class bundle (any 3 classes June – July 2026) \nREGISTER HERE\nPre-registration required. \n\nWhat is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?\nMany movement researchers and theorists of the past century have created somatic methodologies that are now being integrated into dance practices. These somatic practices help dancers find greater ease\, efficiency\, and range of expression. Rudolf Laban was a visionary\, teacher\, and theoretician\, who created a method for analyzing movement called Laban Movement Analysis (LMA). Irmgard Bartenieff was a dancer\, physical therapist\, and pioneer of dance/movement therapy who applied his theories to her own work\, creating a physical reeducation method known as Bartenieff Fundamentals (BF). Bill Evans is a performer\, educator\, writer\, and movement analyst\, who created the Evans Modern Dance Technique\, which incorporates concepts and principles from the Laban/Bartenieff Movement System. \nWhat background\, training\, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?\n\n\n\n\nMeghan (Salem State University) and Kristen (Colleges of the Fenway) are both faculty and directors of college dance programs. Their artistic partnership began in 2008\, stemming from a shared interest in somatic-based dance practices\, pedagogy\, and collaborative art making. Kristen is a Certified Movement Analyst and RYT-200 Yoga Instructor\, and Meghan is a Certified Evans Method Teacher. Their classes are an eclectic blend of contemporary dance practices rooted in the somatic practices of Laban Movement Analysis\, Bartenieff Fundamentals\, the Evans Modern Dance Technique and more. At the heart of each class they foster community building while celebrating each individual’s uniqueness. \n\n\n\n\nFinish this statement: I am passionate about teaching this style because…\nI love to find connections within my body that expand out into the community! \n\nHow can students learn more about this offering?\nInstagram: @moving_to_connect\nWebsite: www.movingtoconnect.org \nContact Information\nContact:\ninfo@movingtoconnect.org
