SUMMARY:Intro to Hard Shoe (Irish Dance)
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop series we’ll take a look at the foundations of hard shoe Irish dancing\, with the basic rhythms of the jig and the hornpipe. Dancers will start to get comfortable in percussive shoes\, and explore the possibilities of making sound with Irish music. This is a great intro class for anyone planning to sign up for our fall Advanced Beginner classes\, or a fun standalone class for those interested in trying out Irish dance. \nCost: $18 per class \nREGISTER HERE\n\nWhat is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?\n\n\n\nTraditional or old-style Irish dance has been passed down from generation to generation\, and is the precursor to the well-known modern competitive step dance/Riverdance. Old-style Irish dance focuses on the connection with the music and is deeply tied into the Irish music community here in Boston.\n\n\n\nWhat background\, training\, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJackie O’Riley spent her formative dance years in the Irish set dancing community in Boston.
