SUMMARY:Rasa Engineering: An Introduction
DESCRIPTION:This 6-hour introductory workshop offers a focused entry into Rasa Engineering – Constructive Abhinaya Pedagogy. Through a combination of discussion\, guided reflection\, and embodied practice\, participants will explore the relationship between body\, character\, and emotion. The workshop introduces key tools from the larger course\, giving dancers practical ways to approach abhinaya with greater clarity\, depth\, and intentionality. \nInstructions: Please bring a notebook and pen for reflections and exercises. Comfortable clothing is recommended for light movement \nCost: $170 \nREGISTER HERE\n\nWhat is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?\nThis work is rooted in abhinaya\, the expressive dimension of Indian classical dance\, which finds its theoretical foundation in texts such as the Natya Shastra. Abhinaya is the art of communicating emotional essence through movement\, gesture\, and internal experience. It has been cultivated across generations within forms like Bharatanatyam and continues to evolve as both a performance and pedagogical practice. \nWhat background\, training\, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?\nMy work with Rasa Engineering emerges from my training in Indian classical dance and a deep engagement with abhinaya as both a performer and educator. Over the years\, I have studied traditional frameworks of expression while also questioning and expanding how they can be taught and experienced today. I have deeply engaged with the practice of Navarasa Sadhana as developed by Guru G. Venu\, which has significantly shaped my approach to emotional exploration. I have also studied abhinaya under Acharya Indira Kadambi\, a direct disciple of Guru Kalanidhi Narayanan. These lineages deeply inform my teaching\, where I aim to bridge traditional knowledge with evolving contemporary pedagogies. \nFinish this statement: I am passionate about teaching this style because…\nI am passionate about teaching this style because abhinaya is not just a mode of expression\, but a way of understanding and cultivating one’s inner emotional landscape. It allows dancers to move beyond imitation into lived experience\, making their practice more authentic\, reflective\, and deeply human. \n\nHow can students learn more about this offering?\nInstagram: @meeraguruvayur\nFacebook: Meera Sreenarayanan \nYouTube: Meera Sreenarayanan\nLinktree: https://linktr.ee/meerasreenarayanan \nContact Information\nPlease contact bostonadavu@gmail.com for more information
