SUMMARY:Beginner and Intermediate Tap for All Levels
DESCRIPTION:Classes teach Broadway style tap and focus on repetitive technique to encourage muscle memory and the confidence to create clear sounds. Inclusion is a priority so that all students feel welcome. Classes are “drop-in”\, meaning you may join any week and there’s no “semester” commitment. Past steps are always reviewed with the introduction of 1 or 2 new steps or combos each class. Similar to a yoga class\, students work at their own individual levels and build up skill at their own pace. Beginners will feel comfortable regardless of when they join. \nCost: $16 for 1-hour \nRegistration: Email or text Christina Harrington to register: charrington9901@gmail.com | (617) 852-6240 \nPre-registration is encouraged but not required. Drop-ins are welcome. \nAccepted Payments: Cash\, Venmo (@christina-harrington-7) \n\nWhat is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?\nTap dancing began as an answer to the horrors of colonial enslavement…with no musical instruments\, Irish and West African slaves turned to their own feet to create rhythms and percussion while pulling movement and technique from traditional tribal and cultural dances. Sounds were initially made with wooden soles\, then pennies and bottle caps\, finally becoming the modern metal plates screwed to the ball and heel of the shoes. These dances made their way to minstrel and vaudeville shows\, eventually transforming into the broadway and rhythm style tap dancing we know today. \nWhat background\, training\, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?\nChristina Harrington joined The Dance Complex as a Teaching Artist in May 2012. As a child she studied tap\, jazz\, and ballet at the Paula Coffey Dance Center in East Bridgewater\, MA from 1987-1995 where tap was always her favorite. From 1996-2001\, she was a member of the dance troupe Orchesis at Elmira College\, and an assistant choreographer for the Elmira College summer theatre program. After several years operating with with KSA Dance in Chelmsford\, Christina formed “Tappin’ With Tina” where classes focus on repetitive technique and prioritize inclusion so that all adult students feel welcome to learn at their own pace\, regardless of experience\, age\, or ability. \nFinish this statement: I am passionate about teaching this style because…\n…Anyone can do it\, it’s incredibly fun\, there are so many styles\, and you can make your own music with your feet! Tap numbers are always showstoppers! \nAccompanists\, Assistants\, and Regular Substitutes:\nJennifer Lee Keeter and Sara Garvin \n\nHow can students learn more about this offering?\nFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/tappinwithtina/ \nContact Information\nContact: Christina Harrington\ncharrington9901@yahoo.com | 617-852-6240
