SUMMARY:Advanced Intermediate Modern Connections
DESCRIPTION:Modern Connections is a Horton based modern dance technique class taught at a pace designed for the students in the room. Class begins with sequential and consistent warm-up\, continues with center phrases that are designed to promote competence and growth of proper technique. This class is designed for an Intermediate/Advanced level mover. This assumes that you have had some experience with dance training in Modern\, Ballet\, Jazz or something similar and you have an ambition to push beyond your experiences or limitations to engage with a fast paced technical approach to embodied learning. \nCost: $22 Single Class (Thursday) | $72 for 4 Class Discount \nREGISTER HERE\nAccepted Payments: Vagaro (through registration link above) \n\nWhat is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?\nUnfortunately 2-3 sentences is inadequate to articulate the legacy of the style that I teach inclusive of history\, cultural and geographic origin\, but I do think that if folks are looking for more information about the Horton technique that I base my teachings around\, they can use these resources to start: http://www.dancehistoryproject.org/index-of-artists/lester-horton/ & https://www.britannica.com/biography/Lester-Horton \nWhat background\, training\, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?\nI began my formal training in Modern Dance 24yrs ago during my undergrad at Dean College under the tutelage of Nailah Randall-Bellinger. There I studied Limon\, Graham\, Dunham\, Cunningham and Horton techniques. I continued my training in various programs and have worked with a variety of choreographers and genres post grad. Those experiences influence my comprehension of body mechanics and approach towards conveying information. I decided to attend the Horton Pedagogy program at the Alvin Ailey School and from there have taken a deep dive into my pedagogical approach that is able to reach students no matter where they are in their training. \nFinish this statement: I am passionate about teaching this style because…\n…I have seen the benefits of studying this technique both on and off the stage. It develops a body awareness and strength that allows for a range of expression from novice to professional. \nAccompanists\, Assistants\, and Regular Substitutes:\nAnja Voges (demonstrator/substitute) – is an arts administrator and dance artist based in Boston\, Massachusetts. In May\, 2023 she graduated cum laude from American University in Washington\, DC with a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies and Dance. \nAnja is currently the Development Associate at North End Music & Performing Arts Center\, a dancer\, demonstrator\, and teacher-in-training with Modern Connections\, a 2024-2025 BIPOC Professional Dancer Mentee with MIDDAY Movement Series\, and a freelance dancer. \nOver the years she debuted six self-choreographed dance works\, produced original research\, and worked in various arts administration\, peer facilitation\, and community-oriented roles. \nIn all facets\, Anja aims to create meaningful connections\, engage with communities\, and generate local impact. \n\nHow can students learn more about this offering?\nInstagram: instagram.com/Modern_Connections\nWebsite: ModernConnectionsCollective.com \nContact Information\nContact: Jenny Oliver / info.ModernConnectionsClass@gmail.com / www.ModernConnectionsColective.com
