The term “house” was derived from The Warehouse\, a Chicago club where the music was often played. Though the essence of the dance is purely freestyle\, popular steps performed in NYC dance clubs were eventually recognized as “house dance foundation.” Members of NYC’s Dance Fusion were the first to teach house dance\, which contributed greatly to house becoming a worldwide phenomenon. \nWhat background\, training\, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?\nA master Taekwondo-ist and professional dancer\, Sean began dancing in the year 2000\, and was formally introduced to house dance by Boston native Ricardo Foster Jr in 2007. For years\, Sean sought opportunities to learn from and train under many house dance teachers including Jardy Santiago\, members of NYC’s Dance Fusion\, and Edson Gonzaga who helped unlock Sean’s understanding of house music and develop his own personal dance style. Since 2013 Sean has been an active member of Boston’s underground club scene after meeting Boston house OGs such as Sammy Savuth and DJ Bruno. \nBy combining proven analytical martial arts teaching methods with his experience in house clubs\, Sean aims to help students from around the world understand & appreciate the lineage of house dance its music and how they can continue to contribute to house’s underground club lineage. \nFinish this statement: I am passionate about teaching this style because…\n…House is medicine for the mind\, body and soul. Nothing gets people moving like house music. I constantly see house music transform a room of people from stillness to a fever pitch. \n\nHow can students learn more about this offering?\nInstagram: instagram.com/shizz_matic\nYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/beejerks\nE-mail List: http://eepurl.com/dMnu7Q\nWebsite: http://seanbjerke.net/ \nContact Information\nContact Sean:\nbeejerks@gmail.com or seanbjerke.net

SUMMARY:Dance Flow + Drum n Bass with Caroline Hekate
DESCRIPTION:Join Caroline Hekate and DJ Lenore for a movement and music-centered evening event open to all. We invite you to dress for fun\, connect\, and be mindful. \nDance Flow inspires creative presence in our bodies as we navigate music genres\, challenge our movement connection\, and dive into a liberating fusion. \nDrum and bass (D&B) is a style of electronic dance music built on fast breakbeats and heavy sub-bass. It emerged out of the Caribbean-influenced UK rave scene in the 1990s\, with samples and synths layered over its rhythm-driven core\, making it a great example of experimental and fusion music. \nThe event will be loosely strutured into the following moments: \nMeet + Greet: Welcome to the space feel the energy of D&B around you.\nDance + Music: Embrace your body’s connection to the music and explore fusion cultures.\nSocial Improvisation: Solo and interactive cues are offered to spark your exploration.\nFlow: Let loose\, play\, go wild. Be free and mindful.\nWind Down: Mellow into softer\, relaxing movement. \nTickets Here\n\n\n\nCAROLINE HEKATE: \nI am an experimental artist\, performer\, and creative visionary from Cambridge\, MA\, of Honduran heritage. \nI flow between worlds and disciplines: as a dancer\, choreographer\, visual illustrator\, musician\, and guide. My work is multidisciplinary\, interdisciplinary\, and transdisciplinary — because life desires to be more than one form. \n“May the rhythm of our hearts inspire the mind to guide our creative soul.” \nLENORE: \nLenore co-founded Elements\, a Thursday-night drum and bass weekly at Phoenix Landing in Boston that has run since January 1999 and is now in its 27th year. She fell into DJing by instinct after immersing herself in house and electronic music in the early ‘90s\, playing her first set in Spain in 1994. A year later\, crate-digging in Boston turned her toward jungle\, which she’s stayed devoted to. As a resident since day one\, her tight mixing and bold programming shaped the night’s identity\, and elements has become one of the most respected dnb events in the US and abroad\, booking local\, national\, and international acts. Beyond elements\, she’s a steady presence in Boston and New England\, known for genre-crossing sets that welcome newcomers into jungle. \n\nIf you or a guest in your party has accessibility needs for this event\, please contact Joe Juknievich at joe@dancecomplex.org or (617) 547-9363.
