We teach Capoeira Contemporânea\, which draws from the traditions of both Capoeira Regional and Capoeira Angola while incorporating influences that have developed throughout Brazil. Our practice of Capoeira Contemporânea is deeply rooted in the traditions of Capoeira Regional developed by Mestre Bimba. Throughout my life\, I have dedicated myself to practicing\, teaching\, performing\, and sharing Capoeira in Brazil\, Massachusetts\, and communities across the United States. \nFinish this statement: I am passionate about teaching this style because…\nI am passionate about teaching this style because Capoeira has been a part of my life for more than five decades and has become something I now have the privilege of passing on to others. Teaching alongside my sons makes that journey even more meaningful\, allowing us to share Capoeira as a family while preserving our heritage\, strengthening our community\, and introducing the art to new generations. \nACCOMPANISTS\, ASSISTANTS\, REGULAR SUBSTITUTES:\nGuthemberg Teixeira: Known in Capoeira as Contramestre Chuvisco\, Guthemberg was born in Belo Horizonte\, Brazil\, and grew up in Boston\, Massachusetts. He is also the organizer of “Vadiar Boston\,” an annual event that brings together communities to celebrate and share Capoeira. \nJason Ri: Known as Contramestre Compasso\, Jason began training Capoeira in 2001 and has been training consistently ever since. In addition to learning the traditions\, movements\, music\, and oral history of Capoeira\, Compasso is interested in how Capoeira empowers communities and individuals through collaboration\, challenging training\, and pedagogy. He teaches classes in Arlington. Compasso is also interested in how mindset and psychology can enhance training\, performance\, and overall mental health. \nThomas Pouncy: Known as Professor Bambu\, Thomas has been training and teaching Capoeira in the Boston area for over a decade\, beginning with Grão-Mestre Chuvisco in the early 2000s. In 2025\, he received the title of Professor and teaches classes in Roxbury.
