What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?

Flamenco, the art form from Spain, encompasses music, dance, singing, and poetry – all deeply rooted in rich cultural and historical contexts. It offers a powerful medium for expression that brings people together across borders, fostering a deep sense of belonging and connection.

What background, training, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?

United Flamenco Directors Guillermo Guillén and Leslie Roybal have joined forces to realize a collective dream of revolutionizing the way we learn, create and appreciate flamenco. Guillén is a skilled and versatile flamenco guitarist, composer, arranger, educator and the visionary behind the popular YouTube channel flamencoMAPS. Leslie Roybal is an accomplished flamenco artist and cultural worker whose expertise spans performance, direction, artist development, and coaching.

Finish this statement: I am passionate about teaching this style because…

…We are passionate about flamenco because it emphasizes community and offers the opportunity for lifelong exploration. We aim to empower those who work with us to reach their highest potential by employing integrated learning techniques that emphasize meaningful practices revealing the ‘why’ behind the ‘how’; a coherent curriculum where each experience builds upon the last; a system where every new element finds its place and function; and knowledge in action through practical skills development.
