Restorative Contact begins with the understanding that touch is an important part of human development and wellbeing. It helps us to be present in the moment, in our bodies, and with other people. In this session we will work with a chosen partner (see session tips) guided through a mostly floor-based sequence of touch and weight-sharing, using various surfaces of the body. We will work slowly and mindfully with care and respect for our body as well as our partner’s. Deep relaxation has been shown to help with anxiety, insomnia, digestion, fertility, and high blood pressure. Studies indicate that touch boosts dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin, the hormones associated with making people feel good, and lowers cortisol levels, which are associated with stress.
• This workshop is non-sexual, so your partner* could be anyone with whom you are comfortable sharing intimate space. If you don’t have a partner and choose to attend in-person you will have the option of being matched up with another participant. (Masks required). Those who do not wish to be in contact with another person are invited to adapt the practice for solo exploration but please be aware that the primary focus of the workshop will be on developing tools for interpersonal touch.
• If you are joining remotely, it is recommended to work on a soft or padded surface, such as a rug and with enough space for two people to lie down and stretch out easily.
