12pm – 1pm: Raqs Sharqi Evolution Lecture
1pm – 3pm: Egyptian Shaabi VS Moroccan Shaabi Workshop

In the first workshop, the students will understand how to work on a classical piece of Raqs Sharqi to built a routine, known as a MEJANCE. In the lecture we will discuss the history of Raqs Sharqi and its globalization through bellydance. In the second workshop we will dive into the folk dance, CHAABI and compare two styles by finding their similarity through music and dance vocabulary.

Immersing to the art of Raqs Sharqi through technique vocabulary, musicality and cultural context. Understand the deep root of the “bellydance” by decolonizing the idea of Erotic dance and finding its roots in MENA countries: MIDDLE EASTERN and NORTH AFRICA

What background, training, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?

I am a Moroccan born and my training is through the school of life first, being a professional dancer and drummer in my community, later studying, teaching and performing, choreographing as well as producing show about MENA world.
