Classes at Roots & Routes: Embodied Movement with Laura Sánchez
2024/25 The DC Presents
About Embodied Movement:
As an immigrant artist, Laura Sánchez will share her personal experience navigating her sense of being home and invite participants to move, connect and create together. Laura will also share an excerpt of her new work exploring the concept of “home”. The workshop will combine the rhythms and movements of flamenco dance with multiple arts-based elements including free writing, creative movement, storytelling, and drawings for self-expression. The practice offers ways to build connection with oneself and others in order to grow in self-realization, wholeness, and wellbeing. This class is intended to provide a space for attendees to freely express themselves and an opportunity for self-care dancing and healing in community. No previous dance experience necessary. |
About Laura Sánchez:
Laura Sánchez is an award-winning flamenco artist, creator, choreographer and educator originally from Cádiz, Spain. Laura received professional training from the Dance Conservatory of Madrid and holds a Professional Certificate in Expressive Arts Therapies from Lesley University where she developed an emerging therapeutic dance practice, Expressive Flamenco©. She presents this work internationally and continues to serve annually as Guest Professor for the Lesley University Expressive Therapies Master’s Program. Laura is currently teaching Expressive Flamenco at Harvard University as part of the embodiment program at Harvard Dance Center. Her research work was published in the Journal of the American Dance Therapy Association in 2021. |
