Contemporary Release

  • What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?
While contemporary simply means “now”, it’s known as a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, and lyrical. This particular class is focused on release technique, which includes plenty of floor work and idea of working with momentum over muscle.
  • What background, training, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?
I’ve been teaching this style for over fifteen years, previously at an 18 and over studio that I owned in Southern California for 11 years.
  • What can students expect from this workshop?
Expect a good time. We’ll have a juicy, challenging warm-up, some guided improv, across the floor, and choreography. This class is not suitable for beginners. We’ll spend a lot of time on the floor and working musicality and texture.
  • Finish this statement: I am passionate about teaching this style because…
It fills the soul and puts everyone into community as they learn, process, and executed. It’s an incredible shared experience and highly connected to the music.
  • How can students learn more?
