Contemporary/Improvisation Repertory Workshop with Steven

What can students expect from this class?

  • This is a contemporary / improv class focused on connecting to our bodies and memories so we can explore movement, sensations, pleasure, and expand our scope of imagination. After a guided warm-up we will continue playing with improvisational games in the center and across the floor to allow exploration and curiosity to arrive. This will help us find new qualities and define our own magic as individuals. Also a lot of games of technique so we can test our different trainings.
  • We will end class with learning and memorizing material based on our work/play in class so then we can manipulate and add more layers during the whole workshop to prepare for the in-progress showing.
  • No experience needed, just the willingness to break patterns and connect more deeply with the tools we have already accumulated during our lives.
  • SCHEDULE: Thursday, November 2 from 6:30-9:00pm, Friday, November 3 from 5:00-8:00pm, Saturday, November 4 from 9:00-11:00am, Saturday, November 4 from 2:00-5:00pm. Performances Saturday, November 4 at 8:00pm (6:00pm call) and Sunday, November 5 at 7:00pm (4:00pm call)

An anonymous donor has made it possible for all workshops led by Black Box Dance Theatre to be offered at a sliding scale from $1 to pay-what-you can range. This would allow participation in any workshops building toward the performances on November 4 and 5.
