What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?
Flamenco is an art form based on the folkloric music traditions of southern Spain, developed within the gitano subculture of Andalusia. It is now practiced worldwide in both traditional and experimental forms. This workshop focuses on castanets technique for flamenco dance. |
What background, training, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?
Clara Ramona is an esteemed flamenco artist and teacher with a profound respect for tradition and a liberal and accommodating attitude towards modernism. Early in her career she was a principal dancer and choreographer with Ramón De Los Reyes Spanish Dance Theatre in Boston, and later established her own dance company in Madrid, Ballet Español de Clara Ramona, and in Asia. Her choreography has been staged all over the world to much acclaim. A much respected teacher, she has served on the faculty of the Boston Conservatory of Music and Dance, Walnut Hill School of Performing Arts, Harvard University Dance Program, Tufts University, and at numerous dance centers in the U.S., Asia, and abroad. |
