Belonging and Othering
About Belonging and Othering
“Othering” and “Belonging” will open a window into the underlying parts of tribalism and bias that keep us divided. The multi-media performance piece will feature eight local storytellers who have experienced being “othered. In response to their stories each company member will create a solo. Choreographer Anna Myer will build on the solos and with interlacing and partnering the whole troupe, iconizing the beauty of belonging. Set to an original score by composer, Nate Tucker.

About beheard.world

beheard.world (www.beheard.world) is a Boston-based non-profit that uses the performing arts and documentary filmmaking to foster civil dialogue and invite trust in the midst of differences. Beyond touring and filmmaking throughout New England, In 2017 we received a National Endowment grant to tour our critically acclaimed piece, “Invisible: Imprints of Racism,” from NYC to Baltimore, followed by a five-city tour up the Great Black Migration Trail from Jackson, Mississippi to Chicago. The company’s award- winning documentary about the tour won Best Feature at the LA Sun Film Festival and can now be streamed on Amazon Prime. The 15 beheard.world performers and filmmakers regularly give workshops and educational classes to inner-city youth and perform in theaters and public venues (inner city parks and basketball courts in housing developments converted to theaters) to bring new understanding to audiences that cross cultural and economic lines.
